Inspired and motivated by a speech pathologist who introduced them to the challenges facing people who live with disabilities, Tom and Diane Jakobs founded InvoTek in 1988. Their earliest efforts were aimed at developing and marketing accessible toys, augmentative communication devices, and a voice-dialing telephone.
Since 1995, InvoTek has focused on pursuing new ways for people with disabilities to access computers, environmental controls, and augmentative communication devices.
“We owe much of our success to the strategic partnerships we’ve formed with researchers from leading academic institutions, rehabilitation professionals and others who share one common goal: to improve the lives of people who live with disabilities.” – Tom Jakobs, P.E.
InvoTek is an active participant in the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.
InvoTek’s mission is to empower people with severe disabilities through the development of accessible technology. The people we serve are integral to our research and design process. They are our teachers and our critics, ensuring that the products we design meet their needs. If InvoTek fails to do this, we fail at our calling.
