Jean

Jean’s husband, Dick, asked if we could help his wife. Jean had multiple system atrophy, a rare degenerative disease. Jean had been an avid reader and wanted to read independently again. Jean’s vision was poor and she had just a little hand movement. Eryn, one of our engineering interns, combined an inexpensive Android G-Box with the Nook reading app and a 40-inch TV. Jean changed pages by clicking the left-button on a large trackball. Dick placed the cursor on the ‘next page’ arrow to make things easy for her. Jean used this system to read a few books, but then her health deteriorated until independent reading was not possible. We then provided an Android tablet with the Audible app that reads to Jean and tried to help her communicate more effectively. Jean passed away in August of 2016.Eryn with Jean
