John

John is a very unusual client. He loved photography before his disability and he contacted us to ask if we could create a way for him to take pictures. John was already using our AccuPoint head tracking system for computer access and he created fractal-based art using his head tracker. But now he wanted to be able to point and shoot a camera to take photographs of bugs. John loved photographing bugs and he was very good at it!

We put together a quote for mounting a Nikon camera on an articulating arm that was controlled by a custom Windows Surface app using a Safe-laser System as his input device. The total cost of the project was over $35,000 and John provided the funds needed.

The video below shows John using the system to take a picture of his wife. The young men in the video are students that worked on this project as part of their senior design project. The voice is InvoTek’s Chief Engineer, Barret Ewing.
