Wes

Wes was Be Extraordinary’s first long distance client back in 2011. Wes’ goal was to start a business tutoring students. We helped Wes to setup his office with a new computer, a door opener, and office equipment. We also helped him with his website.

In 2015 Wes came to us with a second goal. Wes loves to train horses and was invited to judge horse shows. He told us that he would have to take a class to get certified, but the big problem was that he couldn't get his wheelchair into the horse arena. He wanted to know if we could help.

Barret machining

We did a little research and found a small company in California that sells kits for making wheelchairs sand-capable. We purchased a kit for Wes’ wheelchair (figuring this out was a project in itself!), but when the kit arrived it didn’t fit properly. Barret made new pieces as necessary and modified other pieces to get them to fit (picture A).

We also provided a modified car jack so that Wes’ caregiver could quickly lift the chair and change the tires when they got to a show (Picture B). Turns out that Wes is a tall guy and the bigger wheels made it impossible for him to get his chair into his van. Wes has been using the chair and tells us that he hasn’t found a place where he can’t go. The video below shows Barret testing the chair outside of the InvoTek offices -- with some very dramatic music!
